So the first contender in our Christmas sandwich line up for 2020 is the Morrisons ‘Christmas Lunch’ sandwich. First impressions are good, price coming in at £2.50 on its own or £3 as a meal deal … it was a no brainer, 2 minutes later and the meal deal complete – 1 can of kombucha ginger drink and 1 pack of satay chicken skewers for 50p extra!

The packaging was basic but a Christmas design, always good to start the Christmas feel off with the eyes.

Cracked open the sandwich and delved in, as you can see from the pics there was a good amount of filling which ticks the ‘content’ box and generally makes for an acceptable sandwich – hate those sandwiches with a thick middle and barely anything around the sides!

So what’s in the sandwich, well true to the title it was most things in a Christmas dinner bar the roast veg and bread sauce – maybe next year Morrisons? Was a good mix of turkey, bacon, pork, stuffing, cranberry sauce on malted bread. Filling quantity was ok, thick in the middle but could do with more around the sides, stuffing was tasty but a paste rather than cooked. I was actually very impressed with the malted bread, wasn’t just something to hold the filling but was very tasty.

But did it taste good? Well the deep question you’re all asking. Yes, it did taste good and it tasted Christmassy which is a good sign for a Christmas sandwich – not a given unfortunately! Not only was there a good amount of filling but the cranberry sauce really brought the ingredients together and gave a slight sweetness, gave it that Christmas dinner taste but also ensured it wasn’t too dry and not too overpowering either. Overall a really pleasant sandwich, but what score did it get?

Value – 9/10
Content – 8/10
Christmas Feel & Taste – 8/10
Overall Taste – 8/10

AVERAGE TOTAL – 8.25/10

A respectable score, so well done Morrisons! My only mistake was getting a can of ginger kombucha … enough gas in there to power a few wind turbines.

So that’s our score, but more importantly how would you rate it? Get involved, taste it and then rate it and let the leaders board competition begin.

P.S. Apparently last year Morrisons offered a mince pie sandwich!! Do check it out here …. It’s a shame I missed out on that one.
