The peoples vote!
Introducing the Giant PAKE! I hear you say “what the heck is a PAKE??”. Believe me I said the same thing until I was educated by Rob from Pierate (a blog wholly about rating pies… wow! Take me there!). So a PAKE is simply put ‘Pie in a cake’ – now we’re not talking your steak and kidney pie that your mum used to make for your tea, because well that would be rank. We’re talking the best apple pie your gran used to make for the church fete, that beautiful pie encased in the moistest Victoria sponge that equally would be worth a 1st prize at the church bakeoff competition – ok enough about the fetes.
So what did we build … well … we did a 5 layer sponge cake, alternating between chocolate sponge and cherry pies and vanilla sponge and apple pies. There were two fruit pies per layer, bringing a total of 10 fruits in this rather bizarre enormous PAKE.
It was a surprising hit at the Wimbledon event we baked it for (hence the strawberry decoration), I mean what’s not to like – fruit pies and cake, yum.
As a food fusion it was a strange proposal but something I’d definitely bake again, give it a go yourself and see what flavour pies you fancy.
But it’s not about what we think … how would you rate it in the GIANT snack hall of fame?
