So today saw me explore Aldi’s sandwich selection and pick out the ‘Turkey Feast’ Christmas sandwich. To be honest I’ve never seen Aldi being a big sandwich seller and a trip to the shop whilst lots of goodies to be had there the search for the sandwich section was like searching for Gold with a sieve! But once I found the small section I really did come across some Christmas Sandwich gold, the range of sandwiches were small and quantity also small but I managed to get one and at a bargainous price of £1.69 for a deep filled sandwich.

First impressions are good, packaging nice and Christmassy and looking through the window there’s a very deep filled sandwich which is surprising considering the price, so a big thumbs up for content and value.

Cracking open the sandwich it’s got all the ingredients you would expect from a Christmas sandwich, nice chunks of turkey breast, strips of crispy bacon, cooked stuffing & cranberry sauce. All in reasonable proportions also, my only qualm was the allocation of ingredients on the sandwich – one half was a bit dry, but the other half had a great amount of sauce.

So how did it taste? It was a very pleasant sandwich, all the right ingredients for that Christmas dinner taste coupled with a decent amount of cranberry sauce to bring that Christmassy punch and blend the tastes together. Think this goes to prove that cost isn’t always an indication of good taste.

So what score did it get?

Value – 10/10

Content – 9/10

Christmas Feel & Taste – 8/10

Overall Taste – 8/10

GRAND TOTAL – 8.75/10

Overall a very good effort for a retailer not known for their sandwiches but one that excelled on both price and taste.

So that’s our score, but more importantly how would you rate it? Get involved, taste it and then rate it and let the leaders board competition begin.
